The Salina Belle, located near the shores of Lake Hudson in historical Salina, Oklahoma was built in 1922 and was known as the CP Brooks Hotel.
Now it is known as the Salina Belle Bed and Breakfast. The facility consists of 2 luxury suites and a large room consisting of a living area for a family room or a larger party of people. (See our rooms for better descriptions.)
There is a large reception room which our customers have used for weddings, wedding receptions, Christmas parties, Halloween and Valentine parties, Murder Mysteries, dances, family reunions, church group gatherings, bachelor and bachelorette parties, teas and social gatherings.
If you want to be pampered, you have found your “diamond in the rough“. Our desire is to please you so that you not only want to come again, but tell your friends about us too.
Our evening events include Amish snacks prepared by the nearby Amish Community or desserts and our morning breakfast guarantees you won’t walk away hungry.
We are within walking distance to Lake Hudson which includes walking and bicycle paths, fishing docks and swimming areas close by. Many restaurants are close by and in the Pryor area along with a skating rink, bowling alley, movie theater, shops and unique stores. For those gamblers at heart, there is a small bingo hall across the street and the casinos are not too far away from any direction of the Salina Belle. Pryor Oklahoma has become the location for Country Fever, Rocklahoma and Bikelahoma. (several day concerts)
October 2009, the Salina Belle was turned into the Salina Belle Haunted Hotel and the bottom floor was converted into a “spook house”. Received by the community as a positive endeavor, the owner’s have been asked if they would make this an annual event. So look forward to future hauntings at the Salina Belle.
A bit of how this place came to be was through the efforts of Sandi and Yo Yo Collins who purchased the building in December of 2001 and undertook an extensive rehabilitation and remodeling of the grand old building, turning it into The Salina Belle Bed and Breakfast with banquet and reception rooms along with a wedding chapel.
They made all the construction repairs to the entire structure. A new building framed up in the old one. The Salina Belle features two beautifully appointed bed and breakfast suites: The Belle Suiteand The Ferry Suite. There is also the Hudson Room which will accommodate several people in one room. To complete The Salina Belle there is a parlor, a 25′ x 50′ banquet facility, along with a smaller dining room and kitchen for bed and breakfast guests. The current owners and your hosts at The Salina Belle are Cyndi and Richard Johnston who call this home, and would like to open the doors to you to call it home too.
About The Owners
Richard and Cyndi Johnston met in 1976 and married in 1978. Richard works in the aeronautics industry and Cyndi works in law enforcement. Cyndi’s father had been a Tulsa Police Officer for over 20 years and he had a great impact on Cyndi’s life.
Cyndi and Richard visited a Bed andBreakfast that hosted Murder Mysteries in Guthrie Oklahoma. They were both intrigued by the fun and excitement that surrounded the evening. Cyndi knew about the Bed and Breakfast for sale in Salina Oklahoma and spoke with the curator of the Bed & Breakfast in Guthrie and was encouraged to seek out the opportunity of owning her own Bed and Breakfast.
Cyndi and Richard were on their way home from Guthrie but all Cyndi could think about was looking into the Bed and Breakfast in Salina. There was a severe ice storm that hit that evening so she had to wait a little longer before they could visit The Salina Belle. Cyndi couldn’t stop thinking about The Salina Belle and was afraid to tell anyone else aside from her husband and parents about the Bed and Breakfast because she was worried that her concept and idea of running The Salina Belle and hosting Murder Mysteries would be used by someone else.
Cyndi’s parents, Tom and Mary Surber lived in Pryor and on a visit to see them, Richard and Cyndi had asked her parents if they would like to go and see the Salina Belle Bed and Breakfast. Cyndi’s mother agreed but her father stayed behind. The owner was available, so the three of them ventured into the darkened building in Salina. The original Salina Belle had never officially opened so they were expecting the worst.
The building on the outside, needed some facial changes and looked dreary which gave no clue to anyone that the inside of The Salina Belle would be so majestic and so inviting! As the three of them entered the Bed and Breakfast, their mouths dropped open and everyone gasped! The interior was absolutely beautiful! They talked about the Bed and Breakfast almost non-stop that evening, encouraging Cyndi’s father to come and see it. So another viewing was set up and the four of them went back. Cyndi’s father was so impressed with the idea that he was willing to put up the earnest money at that time. They were all very excited. The only thing stopping them from pursuing it at that time was the fact that it was already December 23rd and they all felt it was too close to the Holidays to make such a major decision. It was decided that they’d wait until after the first of the year to proceed. An unfortunate life changing event stopped them from realizing their dream. Cyndi’s father, Tom Surber suffered a massive heart attack on December 28th, 2007 and after being removed from life support, passed away on January 2nd, 2008.
Believing that this was a venture that Cyndi’s father would have wanted to do, she continued relentlessly to proceed. The owner of the building that The Salina Belle occupied, worked things out so that Richard and Cyndi could continue their dream of owning The Salina Belle, without the financial backing of her parents. It was a difficult financial decision for Richard and Cyndi to make.
Several months passed and after borrowing the money from a very special couple, Richard and Cyndi purchased The Salina Belle on April 30, 2008. They opened for business after some minor repairs to the facade were done. Salina is a small community so it took some time to spread the word about this enchanting Bed and Breakfast but thanks to business networking… business has finally come to The Salina Belle.
Cyndi and Richard have occupied what was the Lavender Room so they were able to convert what once was a wedding chapel into a ”Family Room or a Retreat Room.” This room includes 5 sets of bunk beds and a queen size bed, (the room is capable of sleeping 12 people) a bathroom with a shower and a kitchenette, dining area, living room area and entertainment unit including cable. They are hoping this room will be nice to have over-night guests for bachelor parties, bachelorette parties, girls night outs, church, ladies. scrapbook and quilting retreats. Or simply a large family. Pictures of this room will be available soon.
